Ancelotti answers for the first time: Will Real Madrid sign a defender in the winter Mercato?

Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid coach

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti responded with his usual diplomacy about the possibility of including a new defender in the winter transfer period, indicating that the Royal Club is studying all the options presented and has not yet made its decision.

Spanish newspapers presented many proposed names to replace Alaba, while other reports appeared suggesting that Real Madrid will not conclude a winter deal and will be content with its current defenders.

When Ancelotti was asked in the press conference for the Alaves match about signing Alaba’s replacement, he replied, “I will not tell you no. We are talking within the club and evaluating the situation to enter the market. We are looking for the best possible options.”

He also added, "We will take our time to research. There is no need to panic and rush. The market closes on January 31 and we are thinking about the matter now."

As for the possibility of relying on Tshwamini as a center back, he said, “He does not like to play there like Camavinga, who does not like to play as a left back, but will play as a center back in emergency situations.”

It is noteworthy that, with Alaba's injury, Real Madrid now only has the duo Antonio Rudiger and Nacho in the centre-back position.

Real Madrid will play the Alaves match, then begin a two-week rest period, after which it will return to play the first round in the King’s Cup, then travel to Saudi Arabia to play the Saudi Super Cup.
