Barcelona in trouble against Alavés because of De Jong

Mundo Deportivo reported that Frenkie de Jong has not fully recovered from his injury, and will therefore miss Saturday's match against Barcelona Deportivo Alavés.

The Dutch international has been sidelined for Barcelona since the sixth round of La Liga, after being injured against Celta Vigo, and was supposed to return in late October, but he needed more time to recover.

Xavi Hernandez was hoping that De Jong would return before the Alavés match, given the fatigue of Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu, while Gavi will not feature due to the suspension.

But De Jong has so far failed to fully regain his fitness and will not feature for Barcelona again until returning from the international break.

The "Mundo Deportivo" states that the management of the Catalan club communicated with Ronald Koeman, Netherlands coach, in order not to call the player to the national team in this international break, and give him the necessary time to recover, which was already accepted by the former Barcelona coach.

The 26-year-old has scored twice in seven appearances for Barcelona this season, before suffering an ankle sprain in September that has sidelined him for two months now.
