Italian Carlo Ancelotti, coach of Real Madrid

sReal Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti admits that Luka Modric should have started against Valencia, but the large number of quality players in his position prevented that.

The royal club triumphed 5-1 over the bat, in the match of the thirteenth round of the Spanish league at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

According to Ancelotti after the game, Modric would have started but ultimately preferred to bring in the trio of Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga and Fede Valverde in midfield.

Speaking to the media after the game, the Italian coach said: "Modric should have been involved today mainly, I'm really unfair."

"That's the tax to have high-quality players in all the positions on your squad."

Eventually, Modric came on as a substitute in the 60th minute as the score put Real Madrid up 4-0.

The 38-year-old has only played 617 minutes in all competitions in 14 games this season, leading to media talk that the Croatian could leave Real Madrid in January or next summer.
