Thibaut Courtois confirmed that he will not participate with the Belgium national team in Euro 2024, and will focus on his full recovery from his recent injury.

Courtois suffered a cruciate ligament tear last summer, and will not return until April 2024 at best.

Spanish newspapers had indicated Real Madrid's desire for Courtois to miss the Euros so that he could take his full time to recover and not be exposed to any setbacks.

Indeed, the 31-year-old gave in to the desire of the Royal Club, and announced in media statements that he would not be in Germany next summer.

Courtois explained his decision by saying, "I have to regain full fitness first, so it would be better not to commit to a specific date for the return."

He also added, "Now it's a matter of being patient. Everything is going well and we don't want to rush."

At the end of his speech, Courtois stressed that he will play for the Belgium national team after the Euro as a matter of course, and his absence from the competition does not mean his international retirement.

It is noteworthy that Belgium is in the fifth group of the Euro, along with Slovakia and Romania, and one of the qualifiers from the playoff.
