Dani Alves faces a long prison sentence for rape

Spanish media reported that the public prosecutor called for a nine-year prison sentence to be imposed on Dani Alves, the former Barcelona player, on charges of raping a girl in a nightclub.

Alves was arrested last January on charges of sexually assaulting a girl in Barcelona, and is currently undergoing trial in which his position appears to have become very weak after there are testimonies supporting the claim.

According to reports, the public prosecutor will demand that Alves be imprisoned for 9 years, in addition to a fine of $163,000, in addition to subjecting him to another 10 years of supervised freedom.

The final date for the trial has not yet been set, but this step is expected to take place within the next few days.

Alves' wife filed for divorce following the case, and his contract with the Mexican team UNAM was terminated immediately after he went to prison.

Although Alves initially denied the accusation completely, he later admitted to investigators that he had a relationship with the girl, but it was consensual.

Alves has a historic career in football, as he is the most successful player ever with 43 championships, 23 of which were with Barcelona. He is also the oldest player to represent the Brazilian national team in the World Cup, after he participated in the 2022 edition in Qatar at the age of 39 years and 210 days.
