Deco, Barcelona's sporting director, rejected the idea that the Catalan club was lucky in the Champions League draw, which pitted it against Napoli in the round of 16.
Napoli is suffering from a significant decline in results this season, which led to the dismissal of its coach Rudi Garcia and the appointment of Walter Mazzarri as his successor until the end of the season, but this decision has not been of any benefit so far, which made some believe that Barcelona’s task will be easy in reaching the quarter-finals.
In statements reported by Mundo Deportivo newspaper, Deco said, "There is no luck. It is the Champions League. Of course it is good to be here and not in the European League. It is wonderful to feel it after years when we were not here."
He also added, "Whoever the opponent is, you have to prepare well, and we are talking about Napoli, the Italian champion and playing at the highest level. For me, talking in football about luck is meaningless."
He continued, "There are good clubs now and in February they will not be good and vice versa. Napoli have been playing in the Champions League for days and now they are strong."
He concluded, "Look at Victor Osimhen. He is one of the best players last season and at the highest level always and forever."
