Deschamps denounces 'dishonesty' in Ballon d'Or vote

France coach Didier Deschamps believes that some journalists who vote for the Ballon d'Or have "dishonesty" for not putting Kylian Mbappe among the top 5 players in the world.

Lionel Messi won the 2023 Ballon d'Or, Erling Haaland came in second place, and Kylian Mbappe came third.

Deschamps told beIN Sports: "Mbappe deserved to win the Ballon d'Or, I'm not going to console him but he's really disappointed.

"This does not mean that Messi does not deserve first place or Haaland second place, but Mbappe gave a lot and deserved to be in first place by the vote of journalists."

"I consider the absence of Mbappe in the list of the top 5 players voted by some journalists as dishonesty."

Mbappe led France to the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar, winning the French league title with his team Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi won the World Cup, while Haaland was the historic treble champion with Manchester City and the highest scorer in all competitions last season.
