Financial compensation and a winter deal.. This is how Barcelona will replace Gavi

The newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that (FIFA) will compensate Barcelona with a large sum for Gavi's injury with the Spanish national team, in addition to the Spanish League allowing the Catalan club to conclude a winter deal outside the Financial Fair Play law to compensate the 18-year-old.

Gavi's absence was confirmed for a period ranging between 6 to 8 months after he suffered a cruciate ligament tear during his participation with Spain in the Georgia match in the penultimate round of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Due to his injury during the international break, FIFA is supposed to compensate Barcelona for Gavi’s injury with a maximum amount ranging from 5 to 7 million euros, although the Barcelona management does not care much about that because it will not practically compensate for the major loss of one of its team’s most important players.

On the other hand, the Spanish League canceled the advantage of granting clubs, in which one of its players is injured for a long period, the opportunity to sign a replacement player outside of the transfer deadlines, an item that Barcelona took advantage of in 2020 and included Martin Braithwaite in February from Leganes at the time.

However, La Liga gives the opportunity to a team whose player suffers a long-term injury to replace him with another player, even if this does not comply with the laws of fair play, provided that his salary is a maximum of 80% of the injured player’s salary, and that his contract extends only until the end of the season.

Thus, it is expected that Barcelona will take advantage of FIFA funds or any other financial resources in order to sign a midfield player with the specifications of Gavi, especially since the Catalan native played a prominent role in Xavi Hernandez’s squad this season.

Gavi participated in 15 matches in all tournaments this season, during which he scored two goals and assisted another. Xavi also relied on him on the wing as well as in the midfield, a dynamic rarely found in players these days.
