Paris Saint-Germain's chief revenue officer, Mark Armstrong, said the French club is "bigger than any player" and will not be greatly affected if Kylian Mbappe decides to leave next summer.
The series of whether Mbappe will stay or leave the Parc des Princes Stadium is still ongoing, and according to the Spanish media, Real Madrid will give him the last offer in January, and he will have to quickly choose between moving to the Royal Club or renewing his contract with PSG.
But Armstrong's statements may be an expression of Paris's position, which does not intend to increase its financial offer and give the 24-year-old a salary more than what he is receiving at the present moment.
When asked by the BBC about the extent to which the club would be affected marketingly if Mbappe left, Armstrong answered in clear words: “It is true that Mbappe is a great player from a sporting point of view, but commercially the club is bigger than anyone.”
He also added, "Everything does not revolve around Kylian in Paris. We know that we will have a competitive team, and we will continue to invest on and off the field, whether he is present or not."
Armstrong concluded his unusual speech from Paris Saint-Germain officials, “At the end of the day, it is about what we create in Paris and our brand.”
It is noteworthy that Mbappe is the French club's top scorer this season, having scored 16 goals in 16 matches in all tournaments.
