Former Paris Saint-Germain star: Messi's Ballon d'Or win is a shame and delirium

Former Paris Saint-Germain and France player Jerome Rothen has launched a fierce attack on Lionel Messi's 2023 Ballon d'Or victory, calling it a "shame".

Overall, Rothen has been one of Messi's most vocal critics since he joined Paris Saint-Germain, even always demanding that his contract not be renewed and that he leaves quickly and that he does not give everything he has at the Parc des Princes.

Rothen spoke about Messi's Ballon d'Or triumph, saying: "What did Maine do from August 2022 to June 2023 to say he's the best? It doesn't even excel in one standard."

"Haaland scored more than him, it is true that he won the World Cup but Haaland achieved everything with Manchester City and you cannot compare him to Messi about World Cup because he is Norwegian."

"Haaland won everything and broke all records, he scored 60 goals and Messi scored only 20 goals, the Ballon d'Or has lost its credibility."

"Messi winning the Ballon d'Or is a shame, Haaland should have won. I tell reporters that Messi is not even the best in the last 4 years, it's a shame that he won the Ballon d'Or twice, please stop this delirium."

It is noteworthy that Lothar Matthäus, the legend of German football, has considered Messi's victory with the Ballon d'Or a "farce" and stressed that Haaland is the most deserving of the 2023 Ballon d'Or.
