Girona coach Mitchell Sanchez stressed that his team cannot compete with Real Madrid for the Spanish League title this season.
Girona shares the top spot in the La Liga standings with Real Madrid, with the Royal Club having the advantage on goal difference after 19 rounds of the competition.
Despite the amazing levels performed by Girona this season, represented by taking the lead and beating Barcelona by four, then winning 4-3 over Atletico Madrid, the coach does not believe in his team’s chances of continuing like this.
Mitchell said in statements to the media about the competition for the Spanish League title, “Our dream is to play in the Champions League next season.”
He also added, "We cannot compete with teams like Real Madrid."
He concluded, "We dream of participating in European competitions, and we deal with the matter one match after another."
It is noteworthy that Carlo Ancelotti, the coach of Real Madrid, stressed more than once that he considers Girona a contender for the title, and Xavi Hernandez, the coach of Barcelona, also repeated this hypothesis.
