The Moroccan national team's hopes that Lamine Yamal would wear the "Atlas Lions" shirt in his international career ended, after he played his third international match with the Spanish national team on Thursday.

FIFA rules stipulate that any dual national player, after playing 3 matches with a specific team, cannot change his team, regardless of the circumstances.

The Cyprus match in the Euro 2024 qualifiers was the third for the 16-year-old in a “La Roja” shirt, after he played the Georgia and Cyprus matches (home and away).

The Barcelona star scored a goal during the Spanish national team's 3-1 victory, and this was his second goal after scoring a goal in his first international match against Georgia.

After the match, Yamal commented on his achievement, saying, "I am very happy with the goal and the team. I am very comfortable in the Spain national team and with my teammates, and I am very happy to wear this shirt."

It should be noted that there are some outstanding cases between the Spanish national team and Morocco, most notably Brahim Diaz, who represented Spain once, and Morocco's attempts are still underway to persuade him to change the national team and represent the Walid Regragui battalion in the coming period.

In the case of Yamal, the Royal federation tried a lot to convince the Barcelona jewel to represent Morocco, but his final decision was to wear the Spain shirt, and now his participation with the Arab-African national team has become impossible.
