Manuel Diaz, the father of Liverpool star Luis Diaz, revealed that his son dreams of wearing a Barcelona shirt one day, as one of the Catalan club's "loyal fans."

Diaz's father had just been released from captivity after being kidnapped by the Colombian Liberation Army for two weeks, and Manuel quickly returned to stir up controversy by speaking about his son's future.

Luis Diaz joined Liverpool in January 2022, coming from Porto, in a deal that cost the Reds' coffers 47 million euros. The 26-year-old quickly succeeded in becoming an important star in coach Jurgen Klopp's squad, and yet the Barcelona dream always haunts the player.

The Colombian, in statements reported by Sport newspaper, said, “Luis is a loyal fan of Barcelona and has always followed the team’s matches and dreams of playing there one day.”

He continued, "I want to thank Porto and Liverpool for receiving my son and treating him appropriately."

He concluded, "If the opportunity arises for him to move to Barcelona, of course we will take this step. It is a first-class team in the world that competes for all championships."

It is noteworthy that Diaz's importance with Liverpool has greatly increased this season, and this is confirmed by his participation in 14 matches in all tournaments with the Reds, where he scored 4 goals and assisted another goal.

Diaz's brilliance does not stop with Liverpool in the recent period, as he gave the Colombian national team a historic victory over Brazil after scoring two goals in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers at on Friday, in the match that ended 2-1 in favor of "Los Cafeteros."
