Manchester City equals Liverpool's achievement, and competes with Real Madrid in Champions League

Updated: Dec 14, 2023

Manchester City won its last match in the group stage to achieve the full score

Manchester City defeated its host Red Star, 3-2, at the conclusion of the group stage matches of the Champions League.

City took the lead through Mika Hamilton in the third minute, a young player who emerged as a ball-gatherer in 2017, given some instructions by Pep Guardiola, and is now a striker for the Citizens in the Champions League.

Micah Hamilton is the fifth youngest English player to score on his debut in the Champions League at the age of 20 years and 30 days, since Marcus Rashford in September 2017 at the age of 19 years and 316 days.

The second goal for City was scored by another young man, Oscar Pope, while the third goal for Guardiola's squad came via Kalvin Phillips from a penalty kick.

This victory raised the tally of the Champions League title holder to 18 points, at the top of his group standings with a full score.

City has become the second English team in the history of the Champions League to succeed in achieving the full mark in the group stage, after Liverpool in the 2021-2022 season.

At the same time, Manchester City became the first English club to win 8 consecutive matches in European competitions.

The point remains that City thus succeeded in achieving Real Madrid's achievement this season by winning all the group matches, and consequently earning 42 million euros from the competition so far.
