Official: Barcelona announces the absence of its star from the match against Porto

Barcelona announced the squad chosen by coach Xavi Hernandez to play against Porto on Tuesday in the fifth round of the group stage of the Champions League.

The squad as usual, included 22 names, but it was devoid of the name of goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen due to injury.

There was a lot of controversy about the possibility of the German joining the match after he was injured in his country's national team camp during the international break and returned to Barcelona to receive treatment, but he was not present in Rayo Vallecano's last match due to continuing back pain.

It is clear that the 32-year-old is still suffering from pain, as he once again failed to participate in Barcelona’s training, so the decision to exclude him came despite what was rumored that he might be injected with painkillers so that he could be present at the Luis Companis Olympic Stadium and protect the Blaugrana’s den.

On this basis, goalkeeper Iñaki Peña will participate for the second match in a row, after playing against Rayo on Saturday, which ended in a positive 1-1 draw.

This match will be Peña's second match as Barcelona's goalkeeper in the Champions League, after he played against Viktoria Plzeň at the end of last season's group matches, and Barcelona won 4-2 at that time.

It is noteworthy that Barcelona enters the match with Porto at the top of its group, equally with the Portuguese club, with 9 points each, and Shakhtar comes in third place with 6 points, with only two rounds remaining until the end.
