Real Madrid is champion for the winter

Lucas Vazquez's late goal against Deportivo Alaves was invaluable to Real Madrid, giving them top spot in La Liga and making them their best start to La Liga in a decade.

Girona stumbled to a 1-1 draw with Real Betis, losing the lead as soon as Real Madrid won, and the Royal Club was declared winter champion in the Spanish League.

After 18 rounds of La Liga, Real Madrid scored 45 points, which is the best record historically for Real Madrid since the historic 2011-2012 season with Jose Mourinho, when the team achieved 46 points at the end of the first round.

Real Madrid won this round over Barcelona and Girona, in total, 14 matches, tied in 3, and suffered one defeat, which was against Atletico Madrid in the capital derby at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

At the same time, Real Madrid succeeded in qualifying for the round of 16 of the Champions League, topping its group by achieving the full mark for the third time in the history of the Merengue.

Real Madrid will enter a two-week rest period, and will return next January 6 to face Arandina in the 32nd round of the Spanish King's Cup.

After this match, Ancelotti and his squad will head to Saudi Arabia for the Super Cup, starting with a match against Atletico Madrid.
