Emilio Butragueno, Real Madrid's director of institutional relations, confirmed that facing Leipzig in the round of 16 of the Champions League will be difficult, calling the German club a "dangerous and great opponent."
The Real Madrid representative spoke to the media after the draw ceremony, saying, “We are facing a big team. We played two matches against them last season and they were very close. They are a dangerous competitor.”
He also added, "We have a difficult confrontation ahead of us by all standards. They are a great and dangerous team. We showed that clearly last season, so it will never be easy."
As for the injuries that continue to haunt Real Madrid, the latest of which is David Alaba, he said, “We are facing a very bad situation due to injuries. It is a very dangerous situation currently with Alaba injured as well.”
He continued, "We will overcome Alaba's injury by being together. We have to prepare for everything very well. Qualifying for the quarter-finals is our goal and we enter the Champions League with great enthusiasm despite the injuries. We will give everything we have."
He concluded, answering a question about Real Madrid entering the winter Mercato to replace Alaba, "The current team has shown its ability to face all challenges. Let us see what we decide in the end and whether we will sign a new player or not."
