Real Madrid reverses its previous decision and Ancelotti chooses his “old warrior”

Updated: Dec 23, 2023

AS newspaper indicated that Real Madrid management has reversed its previous decision not to include a new defender in the upcoming winter transfer period, while coach Carlo Ancelotti has already chosen his desired target.

The Royal Club finds itself without defenders except for Antonio Rudiger after Militao and Alaba were injured, and Nacho was suspended for 3 matches because he was sent off against Alaves.

All of these things forced Ancelotti to rely on Aurelien Chouamini as a centre-back, but there has become a great realization that Real Madrid needs at least one defender in January.

According to AS, Ancelotti gave Florentino Perez's management the green light to return Raphael Varane back to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Although there was more than one option on Real Madrid's table, Ancelotti preferred the French international due to his great experience, in addition to the royal administration's welcome to contract with him again.

Varane is in a very bad situation with Manchester United in light of the many disagreements between him and coach Erik ten Hag, and newspapers confirm his desire to leave during the winter transfer period, and some even suggested that he join the Saudi League.

For his part, Varane welcomes and even hopes to return to Madrid again, but the whole matter will depend on the success of the two clubs’ negotiations together.

It is expected that Varane will cost the Real Madrid coffers only 25 million euros, an amount within the reach of the Merengue, so all roads lead to returning the 31-year-old back to Madrid.
