Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri expressed his desire to face Barcelona in the round of 16 of the Champions League, for the first time in his career.
Although Sarri supervised many major clubs in his career, including Napoli, Juventus and Chelsea, he never faced Barcelona in any European tournament.
The meeting could take place in the round of 16 after Lazio finished as runner-up in its group and Barcelona qualified as leaders, and the matter depends on the draw scheduled to be held next Monday.
Sarri spoke after the defeat by Atletico Madrid and the announcement that Lazio had occupied second place, "In all honesty, I want to face Barcelona in the round of 16 of the Champions League."
He also added, "I chose Barcelona because I had never faced them as a coach. It will undoubtedly be a wonderful experience."
It is noteworthy that Lazio is not experiencing its best season. Despite occupying second place last season, this season it is ranked tenth in the Italian League standings.
