Alaba was confirmed to have suffered a cruciate ligament tear

Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that initial tests on David Alaba after the Villarreal match showed that he had a torn cruciate ligament.

The Austrian international left the Villarreal match in the 34th minute after a shot that showed a severe sprain to his knee, and because of the pain he needed help to be able to leave the field.

According to Spanish media reports, Alaba was crying in the locker room and realized that he was facing a very serious injury.

After preliminary examinations were conducted, it was confirmed that the 31-year-old had suffered a cruciate ligament tear, which would lead to the end of his season.

Real stars have already begun to console and support Alaba via social media, most notably Toni Kroos, who wrote to him, “I love you very much.”

Alaba will be the third Real Madrid player to suffer a cruciate ligament tear, after Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois at the beginning of the season.

The former Bayern Munich player will need at least 6 months to return to the field, which will likely force Real Madrid to include a new center back in the upcoming winter Mercato.
