Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona goalkeeper

"Sport" newspaper confirmed that Barcelona's medical team decided that Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the Catalan club's goalkeeper, would undergo back surgery.

Stegen has been suffering from back pain since his participation in the German national team camp last November, and since then he has been absent from the field after physical therapy failed to solve his problem.

The German goalkeeper will have to undergo surgery in order to end this pain, and because of this he will be away from the field for a long period of time, ranging from two to three months.

On this basis, the 31-year-old will miss the Spanish Super Cup next January in Saudi Arabia, and will not return before the beginning of next February at best.

It is noteworthy here that the Catalan newspaper suggested that Stegen would not join the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League, which is usually held in mid-February, which confirms that the goalkeeper’s absence may extend for a long time.

"Sport" reported that Barcelona began moving to sign another goalkeeper, whether to participate as a starter in his place, or at least to be a replacement for goalkeeper Iñaki Peña after the promising goalkeeper succeeded in presenting his credentials in the past matches.

The name of David de Gea, the former Manchester United goalkeeper, appears as one of the options on the table of Joan Laporta's management, although the Spanish goalkeeper is currently closer to joining Newcastle.
