The Barcelona star is “depressed” and is close to undergoing surgery

Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona goalkeeper, faces the possibility of undergoing back surgery after all possible treatments failed to relieve him of pain in the past few weeks.

Stegen suffered a back injury during his participation with the German national team during the last international break, and after returning to Barcelona, he has not yet succeeded in playing any match or participating in training.

According to what was reported by the newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", the German goalkeeper will undergo new tests on Monday, with the possibility of resorting to surgery after the treatments have proven ineffective so far for him.

At the same time, the incomprehensible injury that caught the goalkeeper by surprise, along with the idea of the proposed surgery, caused him to suffer from “depression,” especially since this season was one of his best seasons in the last 5 years with Barcelona.

If he undergoes surgery, Stegen will be absent from the field for a relatively long period of time, and with it his chances of being with the German national team in Euro 2024 may decline with the return of Manuel Neuer and the recent brilliance of a number of other German goalkeepers.

Xavi Hernandez had indicated after the Atletico Madrid match that the most likely thing is that Iñaki Peña will continue to protect the Catalan club in Girona's next league match, pointing out that Stegen is still suffering from a lot of pain.

The 31-year-old was present in the stands of the Luis Companis Olympic Stadium and provided support for Peña, but he still aspires to return soon and play again and achieve his biggest dream of guarding Germany’s goal in the next Euro.
