The economic crisis deprives Barcelona of the alleged winter deal

Barcelona will not include Alex Garcia, Girona's defender, in the upcoming winter transfer period, as there are no negotiations at all between the Catalan club's management and the player's representatives, contrary to what was reported in the past hours.

Journalist Gerard Moreno, known for his closeness to the Barcelona administration, announced that negotiations between the club and the player are in full swing in order to activate the release clause in his contract with Girona, amounting to 20 million euros, or to carry out a swap deal, and for him to immediately join the Xavi Hernandez squad.

But the newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", citing sources inside Barcelona, denied that there were any negotiations at all, and pointed out the impossibility of including Garcia in the winter, and the reason, as usual, is the economic crisis.

Barcelona already signed Vitor Roque in January, so they cannot sign another player due to Financial Fair Play rules.

At the same time, it is no secret that Barcelona wants to sign a defender in January, but this seems very difficult unless there is a sale of a player or a huge commercial deal that opens the door to fulfilling the rules of financial fair play.

From Girona's side as well, the club is calm because there is no evidence of negotiations between Garcia and Barcelona, and even if there were negotiations, it would only accept paying the release clause of 20 million euros, while refusing to make any exchange deals.

Barcelona has other options in defense other than Garcia that will be less expensive and may be able to be adapted to the rules of financial fair play, and everything indicates that the Girona defender will not move, at least this winter, to Camp Nou.
