Getafe president Angel Torres has claimed that his club almost signed Lionel Messi before the flea joined Barcelona, had things not ultimately gone as hoped.
Torres' speech came in response to the many questions raised about the possibility of Getafe moving to sign Uriel Romeu, the Barcelona player, in the current winter transfer period.
Torres said, "Years ago, Lionel Messi was on my table. I was able to join him when he was 16 years old. Yes, there are difficult things in football, but nothing is impossible."
Messi had arrived at Barcelona when he was twelve years old, so it is most likely that the idea of loaning the flea came to the Catalan club’s management when he was a little older, or that Torres’ memory was not present at the age of the Argentine player offered to him at the time.
The Madrid club president meant when he said that he would most likely move to sign Romeo in the winter Mercato.
Getafe is not the only club in Spain that wants to sign the Barcelona midfielder, as Girona is also trying to bring him back in the winter.
