Barcelona club press conference

Mundo Deportivo newspaper confirmed that Barcelona's management has decided not to sign a replacement goalkeeper for Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the upcoming winter transfer period.

The German goalkeeper will undergo back surgery in the next few days, which will cause him to be absent from the field for a period ranging from two to three months.

In recent days, newspapers have circulated the name of David de Gea to succeed Stegen in Barcelona's goal for the end of the season. Other names have also been mentioned, and various sources have confirmed the Blaugrana's intention to support the goalkeeper in January.

But according to "Mundo Deportivo", the administration and Xavi agreed not to sign another goalkeeper, and gave Inaki Peña unlimited support after his good performance in the last three matches.

Whether the management of Joan Laporta or Xavi, there is great belief in Peña’s abilities and that he is capable of succeeding Ter Stegen in the coming period, which is filled with major challenges for the Catalan club locally and in Europe.

It is expected that Stegen's absence will extend until after the round of 16 of the Champions League, and it is certain that he will not be present in the Spanish Super Cup scheduled for next January 12 in Saudi Arabia.

Despite all the difficult battles, everyone inside Barcelona trusts Peña and there is no intention to sign another goalkeeper.

It is noteworthy that Barcelona succeeded in completing the contract with striker Vitor Roque in January as the first official deal for the Blaugrana, and the Catalan club is also expected to sign a midfield player to replace the injured Gavi.
