Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez stressed Barcelona's ability to compete for all tournaments this season, admitting that the team had failed in the past weeks, but that does not mean that the season is over.
Xavi spoke at the press conference for the Almeria match, saying, "Do we lack optimism? We have failed, but we will fight for everything. We can get out of the current situation, but if we fail more, it will be more complicated."
He also added, "Competing for the title? We should not fail there. Our mistakes affect us. We had to win against Valencia, and now we have to finish the first round on a positive note and improve in the second round."
He continued, "At the present moment, we are suffering. We have to defend better and keep a clean sheet, as was the case last year. We have to improve in more than one position in the coming period."
As for the struggle to compete for La Liga, he said, “I said more than once that Girona is a direct competitor to us and they will compete for the league title. They have a good coach and they have a way of playing. I repeat, they are a direct competitor to us for La Liga.”
“The Almeria match is very important for us after 3 matches without a win. Winning the league is still possible. We are playing good football but we have to win matches, and we must play a perfect match tomorrow.”
Barcelona occupies third place in the Spanish League standings, 9 points behind leaders Girona, and 7 points behind runner-up Real Madrid.
