Newcastle player's handball against Paris Saint-Germain

Alan Shearer, the legend of English football and Newcastle, expressed his disappointment with the referee of his team’s match against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, considering that he was the reason for the Magabies losing three valuable points in the struggle to qualify for the round of 16.

Wincastle led Paris with an unanswered goal from the first half, before Polish referee Simon Marciniak awarded a controversial penalty kick in the 98th minute, with which Kylian Mbappe equalized for PSG.

After the match, Shearer wrote a tweet in which he attacked the refereeing, "A wonderful fighting performance from every player. This should not be spoiled by a disgusting decision. Well done."

Shearer was not the only one who attacked the refereeing. The famous English referee, Martin Clattenburg, considered that what happened was a “theft” of Newcastle’s efforts, and that the decision to award the penalty kick was disastrous by all standards.

Thanks to this goal, Newcastle needs to win over Milan in the last round, in exchange for Paris Saint-Germain to lose or draw with Borussia Dortmund in Germany.

The task of Eddie Howe's battalion seems difficult, given that Dortmund has officially qualified for the quarter-finals and may play the match with substitutes to rest its players. Therefore, Paris has a greater chance of achieving victory and accompanying them to the round of 16.
