Egypt's national team is in danger.. The reason is the Saudi League

Updated: Nov 9, 2023

Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported that the Saudi club Al-Ittihad is naming the current Egyptian national team coach, Rui Vitoria, as one of the candidates to succeed Nuno Santo.

Anmar Al-Haili's management dismissed Nuno Santo after Al-Ittihad's results declined this season, and it is in the process of searching for a coach to succeed him permanently after Hassan Khalifa was appointed temporarily to lead the Jeddah Tigers in the next match in Abha.

In recent hours, Rui Vitoria's name has emerged at the Al-Ittihad management table, due to his previous experience in the Saudi League.

The Portuguese coach trained Al-Nassr’s for two years, during which he succeeded in achieving the Saudi League title with Al-Alami and also led it to the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League.

Vitoria is under valid contract with Egyptian national team until the 2026 World Cup, and the World Cup qualifiers begin next week, so accepting Al-Ittihad’s offer will be a major blow to the Pharaohs.

This is not the first time that Vitoria has been linked to a Saudi club this year, as he was a candidate to coach Al-Ahli at the beginning of the season, but then he said that he was happy in Egypt and wanted to continue his project in the Nile country.
