Eighth.. Lionel Messi wins the 2023 Ballon d'Or

Lionel Messi is the winner of the 2023 Ballon d'Or, and the eighth in his football career.

The Argentine international accepted the award at the Théâtre de Chathier in Paris, beating Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe by journalists.

Historical career

Lionel Messi finished third in the Ballon d'Or in 2007, then runners-up in 2008, while the award went to him for the first time in 2009 after leading Barcelona to the historic treble.

After that, Messi monopolized the award until 2012, and then returned in 2015 with the fourth title, and while his rival Cristiano Ronaldo succeeded in equalizing him in 2017 with five Golden Balls, the "flea" came from afar and wrote his own history.

In 2019 Messi's sixth title went to him, and he won the award again in 2021, but perhaps 2023 is the most expensive ever.

Argentina and the dream of World Cup

Lionel Messi's season has not been good at club level, with one trophy he has won in the French league with Paris Saint-Germain, but the 36-year-old has made history for himself in his native Argentina.

Messi led the "tango" to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, starting with a penalty in Saudi Arabia with a 2-1 loss setback, and completed it with a goal in Mexico, and then a global goal in the round of 16 in Australia..

Messi continued to shine in Doha, scoring a goal in the quarter-finals against the Netherlands, another against Croatia in the semi-finals, and two goals against France in the final, not to mention the penalty kick.

Messi's total goals in World Cup were 7, and he won the best player award in the tournament for the first time in his history.
