Reports: Ittihad reaches an agreement with a new coach

Saudi newspapers reported that Julene Lopetegui has expressed his consent to coach Ittihad in the coming period to succeed Nuno Santo.

A few hours before the start of this season, Wolves announced the dismissal of coach Lopetegui after the Spaniard led the team to stay in the Premier League last season.

According to press reports, in recent days Ittihad’s management has communicated with Lopetegui and an agreement in principle has been reached between the parties.

The Spanish coach is scheduled to arrive in Jeddah next week to finalize the agreement, sign contracts and start his journey with the team once the current international break ends.

Al-Ittihad recorded its first win since last September in the Saudi league on Friday, after beating Abha 4-2 in a match that saw Karim Benzema score a hat-trick, the first match after coach Nuno Santo was sacked.

The Saudi newspapers have put forward other names besides Lopetegui to coach Ittihad, such as Hansie Flick, former Germany coach, Oliver Glasner, former Eintracht Frankfurt coach, as well as current Egypt coach Rui Vitoria.

It remains to be noted that Lopetegui led the Spanish youth team and then the first team, and then moved to coach Real Madrid in an experience that was not successful, and then coached Sevilla and led them to the Europa League title, before switching to Wolves last season.
