Saudi newspapers have circulated news that Salem Al-Dosari will win the Best Asian Player Award 2022, which is scheduled to be awarded next Tuesday at a ceremony in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The Saudi international is competing with the duo of Almoez Ali of Qatar's Al Duhail and Matteo Leckie of Melbourne City for the award for the best in the Asian continent of active players within the yellow continent.
According to Saudi newspapers, what Al-Dosari has done over the past year with Al-Hilal and the Saudi national team was enough to convince voters to give him the best award.
Al-Dosari was the star of the Saudi national team at the 2022 World Cup, having scored the winning goal against Argentina, and also scored during the 2-1 defeat in the final round of the group stage.
With Al Hilal, Salem won the Kings cup, along with the biggest achievement of reaching the Club World Cup final in Morocco, before losing to Real Madrid by five.
Al-Dosari will be the first Saudi player to win the Asian Player of the Year award since 2014, when Nasser Al-Shamrani won the title, and will be the sixth Saudi player historically to win the best after Saeed Al-Awiran in 1994, Nawaf Al-Tamiat in 2000, Hamad Al-Montashari in 2005 and Yasser Al-Qahtani in 2007.
