The "TYC" network revealed that Lionel Scaloni, coach of the Argentine national team, will remain in charge of the country of silver until Copa America 2024 at the very least.
Scaloni sparked controversy over his future in the last two months when he pointed out Argentina's need for a coach full of energy and passion.
After that, many reports emerged talking about disagreements between him and the president of the Argentine Federation, which would lead to his leaving his position soon.
But according to TYC, Scaloni backed down from the idea of leaving, and decided to continue in his position, and even requested that certain friendly matches be held during the next international break in March in order to prepare for the Copa America.
The Copa America is scheduled to be held in the United States next June, and the defending champion, Argentina, has been drawn in one group, along with Peru, Chile, and another team that will be determined from the CONCACAF playoffs.
Scaloni took over the job of coaching the Argentine national team in August 2018 and led the Tango to the first international tournament since the 1990s, the Copa America, then won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with Lionel Messi’s teammates.
In total, Scaloni played 66 matches at the helm of Argentina in all tournaments, winning 48 of them, drawing 12, and suffering only 6 defeats, and his contract in Buenos Aries is still extended until the 2026 World Cup.
