Romano: Messi won the 2023 Ballon d'Or

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Lionel Messi is on track to achieve the Ballon d'Or for the eighth time in his career, after winning the majority of the journalists' votes for the 2023 award.

The Ballon d'Or ceremony is scheduled to take place next Monday in the French capital, Paris, with the award presented by African football legend Didier Drogba.

Messi is competing for the award with 29 other players, including Mohamed Salah and Yassine Bounou, along with 2022 winner Karim Benzema, Kylian Mbappe, Lataro Martinez, Julian Alvarez and Kevin De Bruyne.

The indicator that makes the "flea" the favorite to win journalists' votes is how he led Argentina to the 2022 World Cup title in Qatar, despite not having the best season at club level.

Messi had won a single title with his team Paris Saint-Germain, the French league, and bid farewell to the Champions League from the quarter-finals at the hands of Bayern Munich.

It is noteworthy that the Argentine star won the Golden Ball 7 previous times in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021, and was in second place 5 times, and once in third place.
