Salem Al Dosari beat Almoez Ali and Mathew Leckie to win the AFC Player of the Year award 2023.
The AFC offers two awards for the best, the first for players within the continent was for Salem Al-Dosari, and another for professionals in Europe and achieved by Kim Min-jae, former defender of Napoli and current Bayern Munich.
Salem's coronation made sense after a stunning performance for Saudi Arabia in the World Cup, which culminated in two goals in Argentina and Mexico, as well as brilliance with Al Hilal including in the Club World Cup.
Salem Al-Dosari became the sixth Saudi player throughout history to win the Best in Asia award after Saeed Al-Awiran in 1994, Nawaf Al-Tamiat in 2000, Hamad Al-Montashari in 2005, Yasser Al-Qahtani in 2007 and Nasser Al-Shamrani in 2014.
After receiving the award, Salem promised fans that he would do his best to come back and win the award next year.
