Sundowns excludes Ahly from African League

Al Ahly bid farewell to the 2023 CAF League from the semi-finals after a goalless draw with Sundowns in the second leg match held at Cairo International Stadium.

This is the sixth consecutive match that Al Ahly have failed to beat Sundowns, while Zwane's teammates have managed to win 4 times, including one with a harsh 5-2 score, making the yellow club a real knot for the red club.

The first leg in Pretoria ended with the South African club winning with a goal without reply, and Al Ahly had to realize at least a goal to reach the penalty shootout or win by two goals to qualify for the final.

Despite the early pressure from Al Ahly, his efforts to score a goal were unsuccessful, and the disappointment was completed when Ali Maaloul missed a penalty in the seventh minute.

Missed Rennon Williams goalkeeper Sundowns in more than one ball, but luck stood a stumbling block in front of Mahmoud Abdel Moneim "Kahraba" in more than one shot and deprived Ahly from the goal that seemed deserved.

The second half during which Al Ahly almost did not reach any dangerous ball on goal, while Sundowns completed the match starting in the 84th minute with ten men following the expulsion of Junior Mendieta.

The last minute saw claims for a penalty kick for Al Ahly after a hand touch on the Sundowns defender, and after the referee returned to see the game in the video technology screen, he decided not to count it, and with it the whistle came at the end of the meeting in a goalless draw.

Sundowns will meet Wydad at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca in the first leg of the final, and then host the Moroccan club in Pretoria at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in the second leg.
