Surprise: Egypt preferred Messi to Salah in the Ballon d'Or vote

The voices of journalists in the Ballon d'Or vote published by the newspaper "France Football" showed that the representative of Egypt chose Lionel Messi and not Mohamed Salah to be crowned the award in the 2023 edition.

Journalists usually tend to choose their homemen in the Ballon d'Or vote, even if the chances of one player are lower than another, but the surprise was that the Egyptian voter put Salah in third place on his list.

The Egyptian journalist chose the name of Lionel Messi in first place, then Erling Haaland in second place, and then put the name of the Liverpool star in third place.

The rest of the Arabs were divided between those who voted for Salah but were in a somewhat lower position away from the first two places, and those who did not choose him in their list.

The Arabs whose lists included Salah's name were Bahrain (fifth place), Iraq (fifth place), Jordan (third place), Palestine (fifth place) and Qatar (fourth place).

Those who did not include Salah on his list were Algeria, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Oman and Tunisia.

Salah finished 11th in the final Ballon d'Or list, his worst position since his start on the list since 2018.
