Surprise: The Saudi League champion will participate in the Champions League!

Jose Felix, editor-in-chief of the famous Spanish newspaper Marca, claimed that there are ongoing negotiations between the Saudi Football Association and the European Football Association for at least one Saudi club to participate in the Champions League in the future.

This idea was proposed after the large assignments carried out by Roshen League clubs last summer, but the President of the UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, came out and confirmed that the participation of Saudi clubs in the Champions League would not happen under any circumstances.

According to Felix, the ongoing negotiations seek to change UEFA’s position on the matter, and allow the Saudi League champion to participate in the Champions League starting next season or the following, especially since Saudi Arabia’s major sports project will remain in place and the clubs will continue to try to sign the best players in the world.

Among the terms of the negotiation is that the Saudi League champion’s participation in the Champions League be permanent, like the rest of the European leagues, and not be an honorary one for only one season.

Until now, it is not known how the European Union views this matter, and whether Ceferin will change his position, yield to pressure, and allow Saudi clubs to have a European presence.

Four clubs from the Saudi League participate in the AFC Champions League annually, and they are the league and King’s Cup champions, the league runner-up, and the Saudi Super Cup champion.

During this season, Al-Hilal and Al-Naasr are close to officially qualifying for the round of 16, while Al-Ittihad is suffering relatively, and Al-Fayhaa is closer to exiting the competition.

The Saudi League includes many stars who have an extensive history in the European Champions League, led by Cristiano Ronaldo with Al-Nasr, who won the title 5 times with two different clubs, as well as Karim Benzema and others.
