The most expensive in history.. Ittihad plans to sign Lautaro Martinez in January

Argentine Lautaro Martinez celebrates wearing an Italian Inter Milan shirt

Saudi club Al Ittihad wants to make Inter's Lautaro Martinez the most expensive transfer in football history, when they try to sign him in the upcoming winter transfer market.

Neymar's transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017 remains the most expensive ever, when the French club broke the Brazilian star's contract in Catalonia worth a €222m clause .

According to the newspaper "Sport", Ittihad wants to sign Martinez, and to make Inter agree to leave the player, the management plans to give the Italian club an offer that is impossible to refuse and we talk here about the amount of 240 million euros.

The Argentine international's contract with Inter is still extended until 2026, and negotiations for his renewal are ongoing between the two parties, but the entry of Ittihad on the line would change a lot of things, especially since the player himself will earn a much larger salary than he currently earns with the Italian club, which is only 6 million euros.

But at the same time, Sport pointed out that the project of Ittihad is questionable for the player, considering that things are not going well in the team on the one hand, and on the other hand, the Saudi club has Karim Benzema and signed him only 6 months ago and it is strange to search after this short period for another striker.

It is noteworthy that Al-Ittihad sacked coach Nuno Santo and is on its way to appoint Julen Lopetegui as his successor, and is fifth in the Saudi league standings and leads its group in the AFC Champions League, with reaching the quarter-finals of the Saudi King's Cup.
