The second to leave United in January... Ten Hag dispenses with a new star

Manchester United decided to cut off Sergio Reguilon's loan from Tottenham and return him back to the London club based on a decision by coach Erik ten Hag.

Reguilón joined United on loan on the last days of the summer transfer window following injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia and a lack of options at left-back.

With Shaw's return, and Ten Hag's preference to rely on right-back Diogo Dalot in the left corridor, Reguilon has been confined to the bench almost permanently in the last two months.

According to “The Athletic,” United told Reguilon’s representatives that there is no place for him in the starting lineup in the future, especially with Malacia’s imminent return from his injury, and from here the discussion began between the player and the club, as well as his original club, Tottenham, about cutting off the loan.

The 27-year-old's contract includes a clause allowing United to break off the loan in January, and a matter of hours will be implemented and the player will return again to Ange Postecoglou's squad.

It is not expected that the Spanish international will remain at Tottenham, as it is most likely that he will either be loaned again to another club or will be sold permanently.

Reguilon will be the second to leave United during the winter transfer period, after Donny van de Beek was loaned to Eintracht Frankfurt until the end of the season with the intention of purchasing it for 11 million euros next summer.
