Varane is “unhappy” at Manchester United and Bayern Munich is trying to sign him in January

Raphael Varane, Manchester United defender

The German network "Sky Sports" indicated that Bayern Munich is interested in signing Raphael Varane, Manchester United defender, during the upcoming summer transfer market.

This season, apart from injuries, the French international no longer participated primarily with Manchester United, which was attributed to disagreements between him and coach Erik ten Hag.

This bad situation made Varane want to leave Manchester United, while Bayern Munich is searching for a new center back to fill the gap in this position on coach Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

According to Sky, internal discussions at Bayern Munich brought up Varane's name to take advantage of his current situation with United, but the deal initially seems "illogical."

The main reason for this is Varane's huge salary with United of €17 million, which Bayern cannot meet.

However, Bayern is monitoring Varane well, and contacted his agent, who informed them that the player’s departure in the January transfer window is “a possibility.”

If Varane reduces his salary, he could join Bayern, which has allocated between 20 and 30 million euros to Manchester United in order to complete the deal, but the option of signining on loan is completely out of the calculations.

Varane joined Manchester United in the summer of 2021 from Real Madrid for 40 million euros, but the French defender only succeeded in winning the Carabao Cup after two years at Old Trafford.

It is noteworthy that Varane played 12 matches this season, most of them as a substitute, for a total of 656 minutes, during which he succeeded in scoring one goal, which was against Wolverhampton in the opening of the English Premier League.
