Why didn't Yassine Bounou win the Lev Yashin Award despite beating Martinez in the Ballon d'Or?

It became clear why Yassine Bounou did not win the World Goalkeeper of the Year award known as "Lev Yashin" despite beating Emiliano Martinez in the 2023 Ballon d'Or standings.

The Moroccan goalkeeper finished thirteenth in the Ballon d'Or standings, ahead of any goalkeeper in the world, but the surprise was that he finished third in the ranking of the best goalkeeper behind Martinez and Ederson.

According to France Football, each Ballon d'Or and Lev Yashin awards has its own vote, so the two awards have nothing to do with each other.

At the same time, it turned out that a number of Arab countries did not give their vote to Bounou, which left his mark and contributed to his loss of the title of best goalkeeper, or at least being in second place.

Figures published by France Football show that the Saudi goalkeeper Al Hilal got only 154 points, second-placed Ederson 197 points, while Emiliano almost moved away from the competition after winning 290 points.

For the Arabs, Morocco, Iraq, Qatar, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia voted for Bounou in first place, but surprisingly, Egypt, for example, did not choose the goalkeeper in the list of the best of all.

Algeria's representative voted for Bono in second place, the same position in which the UAE voted in Bahrain, Jordan, Oman and Palestine, against third place in Lebanon's vote.

Bounou produced very outstanding performances at the 2022 World Cup that led Morocco to the semi-finals, and also shone with his team Sevilla and was a decisive factor in the Andalusian club's Europa League title.
