Al Ahly qualified for the 2023 CAF League semi-finals following a positive 1-1 draw with Tanzania's Simba in the quarter-final second leg at Cairo International Stadium.
The first leg at the Mkaba National Stadium in the Tanzanian capital Dar es Salaam ended in a 2-2 draw, bringing the aggregate to 3-3 with Al Ahly winning thanks to the away goal rule.
The red genie did not perform as hoped for throughout the match until the Tanzanian club surprised him with a goal in the 68th minute through Sadio Kanoute, but Mahmoud Kahraba quickly managed to amend in the 76th minute.
Al Ahly will await the winner of the match between Sundowns and Petro Atletico, in the semi-finals, knowing that the first leg between the two teams ended with the South African club winning 2-0 in Angola.
