Mahmoud Al-Khatib, President of Al-Ahly Club, held a meeting with the first team football coach, Marcel Koller, during which he informed him that he would continue to train the Red Giants, regardless of what would happen in the Club World Cup.
Al-Ahly is suffering from a significant decline in results in the recent period after drawing the last 4 matches between Africa and the Egyptian League, which made some newspapers expect that the Swiss will be ousted if they fail in the Club World Cup.
However, according to Al-Riyadiah newspaper, the meeting between Al-Khatib and Koller in Saudi Arabia witnessed clear confirmations from the president that the club has great confidence in the coach and does not plan to dispense with him under any circumstances.
Al-Khatib also assured Koller that what will happen in the Club World Cup, whether positive or negative, will not affect his future in Al-Jazira, denying what was reported in the Egyptian newspapers and reached the coach, that any negative results in the World Cup will mean his dismissal.
Al-Ahly is scheduled to open its campaign in the Club World Cup in Jeddah by facing the landowner, Al-Ittihad, at the Radiant Jewel Stadium on Friday evening.
Al-Ahly lost the lead in the Egyptian League to Pyramids, but it still leads its group in the African Champions League, and also reached the final of the Egypt Cup.
It is noteworthy that Koller took over as coach of Al-Ahly in September 2022, and since then he has been able to win 5 championships, and achieved fourth place in the last Club World Cup in Morocco, which guaranteed him the renewal of his contract until 2026.
