Egypt announces the loss of its star in the African Cup of Nations due to injury

The Egyptian Football Association announced in an official statement that Ahmed Nabil “Koka” has been excluded from the Egyptian national team’s roster participating in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury.

According to the statement, Koka's recent medical examinations proved that he was injured in the ligaments in the foot, and consequently his inability to compete in the African Nations.

Until now, it has not been announced whether coach Rui Vitoria intends to call another player to the Pharaohs’ midfield, or whether the list will remain as it is.

Koka's inclusion in Egypt's Alcan team was very logical, after he succeeded in securing a starting position with Al-Ahly in the recent period, and he performed at distinguished levels with Marcel Kohler's squad in the 2023 Club World Cup.

In total, the 22-year-old played 14 matches this season with Al-Ahly in all tournaments, where he made two goals, one in the Club World Cup and the other in the league, which secured him his first call-up to the Egyptian national team camp.

The Nile country is in the second group of the Nations Cup, along with Ghana, Mozambique and Cape Verde.
