Al Ahly lose again in South Africa to Sundowns in the African League

Al Ahly suffered defeat again in South Africa at the hands of Sundowns, this time in the first leg of the semi-finals of the 2023 CAF League, with an unanswered goal.

Despite the Red Genie's success in coming out of the first half with a goalless draw despite the hosts' almost absolute possession, Marcel Koehler's battalion collapsed relatively at the beginning of the second half.

Tabelo Masiko's left-footed shot came as a translation of the yellow club's advantage in the match, and with it the realization of the first goal for Sundowns against goalkeeper Mohamed El Shennawy.

Al Ahly then started creating chances on the South African club's goal, but all their efforts were unsuccessful, but the final minute saw a controversial shot after the Egyptian club demanded a penalty that was ignored by the referee and VAR.

In the second leg, Al Ahly will need to win by two goals without reply to reach the final of the CAF League and face the winning team of the match between Esperance Tunis and Wydad of Morocco.

The second leg will be held on November 1 at Cairo International Stadium, to start at 7 pm Egypt time.
