Arsenal fails to untie the knot...a draw decides the top spot with Liverpool

Updated: Dec 27, 2023

Liverpool and Arsenal tied

Arsenal failed to untie the knot, and settled for a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in the match held at Anfield in the 18th round of the English Premier League.

The London club has not succeeded in achieving victory at Anfield for 11 years, and despite Mikel Arteta announcing that it is time to untie the knot, his club is failing again to do so.

The start of the match was very exciting after Gabriel succeeded in scoring the first goal for Arsenal in the third minute.

In the 25th minute, Mohamed Salah was able to translate Liverpool's pressure and score the equalizer for the Reds.

In the second half, Liverpool were the closest to scoring, specifically in a one-on-one opportunity by Alexander-Arnold, who unfortunately had the ball hit the crossbar.

With this tie, Arsenal is alone in the Premier League standings with 40 points, one point behind Aston Villa and Liverpool.

Perhaps Manchester City will benefit the most from this, as if it wins over Brentford in the postponed match, it will reduce the gap with the leaders to only 3 points, and with Liverpool to two points.

It is noteworthy that Arsenal will visit Anfield again in January, but this time in the FA Cup competition, in a match that Mohamed Salah will miss due to his participation with the Egyptian national team in the African Cup of Nations.
