The Algerian national team was able to achieve a difficult victory over the Mozambican national team at the Estadio Nacional de Zambito, in the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the continent of Africa.

The "Desert Warriors" won the first round over Somalia 3-1 in Algeria, while Mozambique beat Botswana 1-0.

Coach Djamel Belmadi's squad succeeded in breaking the group's lead partnership with Mozambique after defeating them thanks to goals from Fares Shuaibi and Ramez Zerrougui.

On a related note, Egypt defeated Sierra Leone with two clean goals scored by Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” in the match that was held against Liberia.

Egypt moved away from the top of its group standings by reaching the sixth point after a strong victory in the first round over Djibouti 6-0 at Cairo International Stadium.

As for the Sudanese national team, it succeeded in defeating Congo 1-0, reaching the fourth point and temporarily topping its group until Senegal game vs Togo.

The rest of the Arab teams will play their qualifying matches next Tuesday, as Morocco faces Tanzania in Dar es Salaam, while Tunisia faces Malawi, and Libya plays against Cameroon.

It is noteworthy that the third and fourth rounds of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup will be held in June 2024.

From the African continent, 9 teams qualify directly for the World Cup (the teams that will top their group), and the number can increase to 10 if the team participating in the global playoff qualifies.
