Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola stressed that his team will rise up in the face of the harsh criticism it has been exposed to recently, and will succeed in writing “a new history” and responding to all doubters.
This season, City suffered, unusually, from a decline in results that led to its decline to fourth place in the English Premier League, and as a result Guardiola found himself under criticism.
The Spanish coach spoke in statements reported by BBC, saying, “The more you win, the more they want you to fail than ever before. I felt that from my first day in Barcelona.”
He also added, "People say how good we play and how genius we are, but that's because I win, but they don't understand anything about what we really do. They give us praise only because we win."
He continued, "The titles we won are unbelievable. I said we played well against Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Tottenham, but we did not win. This is real evidence that critics do not care about the way we play."
"We played exactly at the same level as the best we have played in the last eight years. But we didn't win, so it's a crisis, a disaster."
"We will write new chapters of coronations. We will go to the store to buy new papers to write a new history."
He concluded, "The reason we are here is not the Champions League final, but rather failures such as Monaco, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Lyon, and the final that we lost against Chelsea and the Real Madrid match."
"It's not just about bringing Pep here and then success will happen. It's a long process that took 8 years to work with and a lot of disappointments, but it's part of life. We'll try again and we'll achieve success, I'm sure."
