Tottenham received their first defeat of the season in the Premier League, after losing to Chelsea 3-1 at Spurs Stadium at the end of the eleventh round.
This match can only be called a Hollywood script, and here we are talking about refereeing decisions and VAR.
The start of the game was as expected for Tottenham to take the lead, and Dejan Kulusevski imprinted on them in the sixth minute, but what happened next was fictional.
The referee ruled out a goal for Raheem Sterling in the 23rd minute, then VAR awarded a penalty to Chelsea in the 33rd minute and with it the expulsion of Tottenham centre-back Christian Romero, and Cole Palmer succeeded in turning it into the net announcing the draw for the Blues.
With the 55th minute came another turning point, when Destiny Odogi received a second yellow card and was sent off, and Tottenham completed the last 35 minutes with just 9 men.
The strange thing was coach Ange Postecoglou's decision to play with an high line, which resulted in many dangerous opportunities for Chelsea, until Nicolas Jackson succeeded in scoring the goal for the Blues in the 75th minute.
Despite the numerical shortage, Tottenham appeared in Chelsea's areas and almost equalized, and indeed Eric Dier scored the equalizer, but VAR canceled it because the English defender was in an offside position.
Bentancur then missed the chance of a goal after his header came outside the goal, followed by another big attempt from Heung-Min Son after a powerful shot saved by goalkeeper Sanchez, and immediately after Chelsea's third goal came from Jackson and then the fourth from the same player to be his first "hat-trick" with the London club.
With this result, Tottenham lose the top of the Premier League standings, as they are in second place with 26 points and one point behind leaders Manchester City.
Chelsea recorded their fourth Premier League win of the season and took them to 15 points in tenth place.
