It's over.. Haaland and 2 of City's stars will miss the Club World Cup

Updated: Dec 20, 2023

Manchester City player Haaland will not play the first match in the World Cup

It has been confirmed that Erling Haaland will not participate with Manchester City in the 2023 Club World Cup due to injury.

The Norwegian international suffered a muscle strain two weeks ago, and Pep Guardiola confirmed earlier that Haaland might play in the World Cup.

But the surprise, according to Sky Sports, is that City's medical staff decided to rule out Haaland and not risk him before he fully recovered in the Club World Cup.

Haaland will not be the only player excluded due to injury, as Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku will also not play in the World Cup.

Instead of the injured trio, City included Max Illin, Mohamedou Sushou and Mika Hamilton in its squad for the World Cup.

It is noteworthy that City opened the Club World Cup by facing Urawa Reds, and after passing, it will set up a date with Fluminense in the final match next Friday.
